Bug Labs: Build your own dream gadget

This product takes open source thinking to an new and very interesting level.

Described as “the Lego of gadgets” by Webware’s Rafe Needleman, the Bug Labs platform starts with a minicomputer, the Bug Base, onto which you can snap multiple modules, such as a digital camera or an LCD screen. You can then program your own software to run your custom gadget or download software others have written from the Bug Labs site. Need a GPS-enabled digital camera that will automatically upload your images to Flickr? With the Bug Labs platform, you can build one.

Wi-Fi Camera Card Gets a CES Prize

This actually looks pretty cool:

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A memory card that wirelessly sends pictures from a digital camera to a computer — letting you skip the tedium of plugging the camera in to upload images — got bragging rights Wednesday at the International Consumer Electronics Show.

Eye-Fi Inc.’s wireless card beat nine other contenders for the top spot in the traditional Last Gadget Standing session, a breezy and informal CES contest staged by Yahoo Inc.’s technology section. The winner is determined by the volume of audience applause.

The $100 Eye-Fi card, which has 2 gigabytes of memory, uses Wi-Fi to instantly zap pictures to computers and photo-sharing Web sites. The company, based in Mountain View, Calif., announced earlier at CES that it had a deal to get its technology into memory cards made by Lexar Media.

Is LiveUniverse Buying Revver?

According to Conteninople:

A credible source says LiveUniverse is buying the video sharing site Revver in a stock swap. The deal will be announced next week.

Los Angeles-based LiveUniverse is run by MySpace founder Brad Greenspan. Though its flagship site is the somewhat obscure LiveVideo, the company would add Revver to its network of video sites. LiveUniverse isn’t exactly forthcoming about what the other in the network are, but screen shot of the video site Glumbert appears on the company page. And, Greenspan mentioned taking a 30 percent stake in LiveLeak in his blog. LiveUniverse also bought video search site Flurl in October 2006.
